Cover Reveal – IT SEEMED LIKE A GOOD IDEA AT THE TIME by Kylie Scott

Kylie Scott has a new book coming out!!! And it’s not just a one word title! Haha! Check out It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time.

“Addictive like all Kylie Scott books, you’ll swoon, laugh, ache, put your life on hold, and compulsively read until the wee hours of the night—only to reread the whole thing the next morning. Perfection!” – Katy Evans, New York Times bestselling author

Returning home for her father’s wedding was never going to be easy for Adele. If being sent away at eighteen hadn’t been bad enough, the mess she left behind when she made a pass at her dad’s business partner sure was.

Fifteen years older than her, Pete had been her crush for as long as she could remember. But she’d misread the situation—confusing friendliness for undying love. Awkward. Add her father to the misunderstanding, and Pete was left with a broken nose and a business on the edge of ruin. The man had to be just as glad as everyone else when she left town.

Seven years later, things are different. Adele is no longer a kid, but a fully grown adult more than capable of getting through the wedding and being polite. But all it takes is seeing him again to bring back those old feelings.

Sometimes first loves are the truest.

Week In Books – w/e 22/4/18

Week In Books is a feature where I catch you up on my week in the book world, whether it be new books I’ve one-clicked, books that have caught my eye, book-world news, reviews, and what I’ve been reading that week. I’d love to see your own Week In Books in the comments!

————-

This week has been a crazy busy week work-wise which has meant that not a lot has happened in my little blogging world – no reviews this week *gasp* BUT it doesn’t all begin and end there. Check out my Week In Books below…

I’ve not really had much reading time this week, so I’m still part way through my ARC of The Chateau by Tiffany Reisz. Today is my first day off in a week, so I plan on relaxing with Kingsley – what a perfect way to spend the day!!

I still plan on reading Christina Lauren’s latest release, Love And Other Words, but in 2 days Joanna Wylde will be releasing Rome’s Chance which is a novella set in her Reaper’s series which I LOVE!! So I might fit in a quickie with Rome before I jump into the emotion of the latest CLo!

  • Pepper Winters released the cover for the sequel to her incredible The Boy And His Ribbon which I gave a massive 5 stars! The Girl And Her Ren releases in June and you can check out the cover over here!
  • There was a new release from Penelope Douglas which has everyone raving called Birthday Girl – it’s a taboo storyline which I love the sound of!! She’s 19 and he’s 38 – he’s also her boyfriends father – eeeeek!!
  • First by Kimberly Adams was a 6 star read for me and it’s currently FREE!!! “A truly beautiful, devastating and unforgettable romance.” Everyone needs to read this book!!
  • My favourite, Tiffany Reisz, has a book on sale!! The Red is just 99p – here’s my 4 star review!
  • Book #3 in Kylie Scott’s Dive Bar series is now live! Grab your copy of Chaser – I’ve got mine!
  • And finally after almost 5 years of blogging, I bought a domain! Now you can find me at the much easier blog address lovehollyxx.com

That’s all I’ve got for you this week, make sure you check back for the next Week In Books, and sign up to my blog to receive email updates!

Review – TRUST by Kylie Scott

Check out my review of TRUST by Kylie Scott!

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

I am always game for a Kylie Scott book, and I was really excited when she first announced she would be releasing her first ever YA (Young Adult) novel. As normal, I didn’t read the synopsis or anything else about the book before I started reading, I went in completely blind, knowing only that this was a YA by an author I loved, and I was not disappointed.

In fact, Trust turned out to be even better than I was expecting! It starts off and you are immediately gripped, edge of your seat kinda stuff, and as the book goes on, though I was able to sit back and relax, I just couldn’t stop reading. A real unputdownable read.

It’s been a while since I read a YA book, I find myself liking more mature characters these days, but I loved being with the characters in Trust, seeing them develop and deal with the events of the book, as well as watching friendship blossom into first love… my heart was fit to bursting.

Admittedly, I did find the end to be slightly rushed, and would have liked to see that given a bit more attention, but other than that, I thought Trust was a really fantastic story, and I’d love to see Kylie Scott revisit this world again.

The face that launched a thousand ships…

I grew up knowing my destiny. Daddy pounded it in my head, my brother repeated it every day of my life. I was the only daughter of the Orsi crime syndicate, the pretty prize that would bring peace. My one job was to marry Callum Sheehan, the vicious head of the Irish mob in Chicago.
I never questioned my future–until I saw him.

The man who was never meant to love her…

I wasn’t going to the wedding. It’s shit that my brother does, things our father requires of the heir of the Sosa cartel. Not me. I’m the black sheep, the one Mama spoiled, and my father loves, but without the pressure of expectation. But Sheehan is too big a deal for me to blow off.
And then I see her.

The love that started a war…

She isn’t mine. She will never be mine. I watch her fall apart when she thinks no one is watching. I watch her marry another man. I watch her bravery. And I don’t care who she belongs to or that it will start a war between our families.

I will damn us both to possess her, and burn down the world to keep her.

A modern erotic retelling of Helen of Troy, and the epic love that brought an empire to its knees.

In the compulsively readable follow-up to her widely acclaimed debut novel, You, Caroline Kepnes weaves a tale that Booklist calls “the love child of Holden Caulfield and Patrick Bateman.”

Hidden Bodies marks the return of a voice that Stephen King described as original and hypnotic, and through the divisive and charmingly sociopathic character of Joe Goldberg, Kepnes satirizes and dissects our culture, blending suspense with scathing wit.

Joe Goldberg is no stranger to hiding bodies. In the past ten years, this thirty-something has buried four of them, collateral damage in his quest for love. Now he’s heading west to Los Angeles, the city of second chances, determined to put his past behind him.

In Hollywood, Joe blends in effortlessly with the other young upstarts. He eats guac, works in a bookstore, and flirts with a journalist neighbor. But while others seem fixated on their own reflections, Joe can’t stop looking over his shoulder. The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They re-emerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: truelove. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend—he wants to be with her forever. But if she ever finds out what he’s done, he may not have a choice…

She’s determined to make it a success and can’t think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she’s in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him—his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school—he’s all bad boy…exactly her type and exactly what she doesn’t need.

Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. New Review, Excerpt and Giveaway – Blog Tour: DEEP by Kylie Scott

The fourth and final book of the much loved Stage Dive series is now live. Check out my thoughts on Ben and Lizzy’s story, read an excerpt, and enter the giveaway to win the entire series, signed by the author!

image

Positive. With two little lines on a pregnancy test, everything in Lizzy Rollins’ ordinary life is about to change forever. And all because of one big mistake in Vegas with Ben Nicholson, the irresistibly sexy bass player for Stage Dive. So what if Ben’s the only man she’s ever met who can make her feel completely safe, cherished, and out of control with desire at the same time? Lizzy knows the gorgeous rock star isn’t looking for anything more permanent than a good time, no matter how much she wishes differently.

Ben knows Lizzy is off limits. Completely and utterly. She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzy are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

image

“Sweetheart. Liz.…” The deep, dirty way he said my name, holy shit. His voice rumbled through me, lighting fires and causing chaos everywhere it went. I’d never be the same.

******

Reading this book was so bittersweet. Sweet because, hello!! It’s another Stage Dive book! The rock stars I have spent the last year being obsessed with. But bitter because it’s the final Stage Dive book. No more of some of my very favourite fictional characters–both the guys and the girls.

We’ve had David and Ev, Mal and Anne, Jimmy and Lena, and now we finally have Ben and Lizzy. The excitement for this couple’s story has been slowly building throughout the series, and I was about going out of my mind waiting for it to land on the Kindle. When it finally arrived, I dived right in, and my views are mixed.

I didn’t love this book as much as I did the others. At one point, I didn’t really like any of the characters. Even Mal, who is one of my top, top, top book boyfriends ever!! And I hated that I didn’t like him, but he just didn’t come across as…him. Not the guy I’ve loved hopelessly since book 1.

BUT, don’t let that put you off because it was still a great edition to the series, and I loved Lizzy immediately. I may have–on occasion–wanted to kick Ben’s butt, and tell him to think with his heart instead of his head, because these two have been killing me with their sexual tension and undeniable connection!

Ben and Lizzy didn’t have it easy; there were lots of things standing in their way, but sometimes things are inevitable. And Ben Nicholson and Lizzy Rollins were practically written in the stars.

I’m still not ready to say goodbye to these characters. And though it was a good end to the series, I’m really hoping that we get a bonus short story/novella at some point, to see how the crowd is getting on further down the line. Because I’m greedy Groupie, and I miss them already. Long live the genius that is Kylie Scott’s rocking Stage Dive series!

His laughter, it didn’t really sound the smallest bit amused. “Christ. You’re done here.”
“Ah, no. I’m actually not. Now see, this is where we have a problem.” I folded my arms. Then unfolded them because like fuck I’d look defensive. He was the one in the wrong, not me. “You’re not prepared to take me, or my feelings, seriously. What you want is to hide away in Mr. Too Cool for Commitment land and just play with my affections when it suits you. Okay, I’ve accepted that. But none of that means it’s okay for you to come in here and act like you’re the boss of me. None of it.”
“That so?” he asked, leaning down so that we were almost nose to nose.
“That’s so, baby.” I play-punched him in the shoulder, which it should be noted, I barely came up to. Okay, so maybe the alcohol on a mostly empty stomach had made me slightly/lots braver/sillier. “So why don’t you take your little caveman jealous tantrum bullshit somewhere else. See, I do this funny thing I like to refer to as whatever the fuck I want. Understand?”
He just stared.
“And as pretty as you are with your beard and your muscles, you are too damn tricky and . . . complicated and shit for me.”
“I am?”
“Yes, you are. Are you finally seeing my point here?”
“You bet.”
“Excellent. So take your hotness elsewhere, kind sir. I want no part of it!” Huh. I had so told him. Drunken bravado was the best.

New Review and Release Day – LEAD by Kylie Scott

It’s finally LIVE!!!!! The third book in the STAGE DIVE series by Kylie Scott is ready and waiting for you to devour, and devour it you will! I couldn’t get enough of Jimmy and Lena. Check out my review, and one of my favourite scenes from the book in an excerpt. Enjoy ❤

Title: Lead
Series: Stage Dive #3
Author: Kylie Scott
Genre: Rock Star Romance
Age: New Adult

20140729-223804-81484974.jpg

image

Stay up all night with the sexy rockers in Stage Dive, the epic rock star romance series from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott, author of Lick and Play.

As the lead singer of Stage Dive, Jimmy is used to getting whatever he wants, whenever he wants it, whether it’s booze, drugs, or women. However, when a PR disaster serves as a wake-up call about his life and lands him in rehab, he finds himself with Lena, a new assistant to keep him out of trouble.

Lena’s not willing to take any crap from the sexy rocker and is determined to keep their relationship completely professional, despite their sizzling chemistry. But when Jimmy pushes her too far and Lena leaves, he realizes that he may just have lost the best thing that ever happened to him.

image

After reading and loving all three of the currently released Stage Dive books, I think it’s safe to say I’m a certified groupie. These guys are addictive, and lead singer Jimmy is no different.

I have to say, in LICK and PLAY, I didn’t like Jimmy. In all honesty, I thought he was a dick, but I was interested in seeing how his book turned out because of how much I loved his band mates. And I’m so glad because LEAD is another hit from the mega talented Kylie Scott.

The story didn’t go how I was expecting at all! I figured that Lena would hate Jimmy to start with, and learn to love him, but that wasn’t the case and what did in fact happen was so much better.

I loved Lena. Completely and utterly loved her! She is not only my favourite female character from the STAGE DIVE series, but she’s one of the very best (if not the best) heroines that I’ve ever read about. She was a real kickass kind of girl and I loved how she was just like us. She’s curvy, got attitude, and she fangirls over Jimmy Ferris just like we do. Did I mention that I love her?

And Jimmy. The hashtag #OMGJimmy is perfect because OMG I love him, too! And as I said before, I really didn’t like him in the previous books so that should show how great he is in LEAD. Though he doesn’t quite take the lead in the battle of my favourite fictional rock star, he’s a very close second behin the one and only Mal, who was once again hilarious in the latest book of the series.

Kylie Scott never fails to get me completely wrapped up in this series. From the quick and witty banter, to the character development, to the sad moments, and the times that have swooning so hard that if I was stood up I’d surely fall down. I crave the stories she gives us through the Stage Dive members, and it can honestly say that I don’t think I will ever get enough.

So that’s three down and one to go. We’ve seen band mates David, Mal, and now Jimmy go through the good times and the bad, and next up we have Ben. Though I’m of course incredibly excited for his book, I also don’t want the series to end. I am praying that Ms. Scott has a littles surprise up her sleeve because four books are just not enough for this greedy Stage Dive Groupie!

image

“Lena, you seen my old black Led Zep shirt?”
“Nope.”
“You sure?” His brows became one dark cranky line. The scratches on his face were healing well, thank goodness. Though it didn’t reduce my desire to throttle his mother on a daily basis.
“Yes. I haven’t seen it.”
“Can’t find it anywhere…”
“And this is a surprise, how?” I slipped my hands into my back jean’s pockets. “Jimmy, you own more clothing than Cher, Brittney, and Elvis, put together. Things are bound to go missing.”
“Sure you haven’t seen it?”
“For goodness sake, what do you think, Jimmy? That I stole it to sleep in or something?” I laughed bitterly. Sure as hell, the truth deserved a good mocking. I’d sunk so despicably low.
I hadn’t even meant to steal the stupid thing, but the shirt had been mixed up with my laundry a few days ago. It’d been the first top I laid my hand on after stepping out of the shower, ready to go to bed. Without thought, I’d put it on and it’d been so soft, the scent of him lingering beneath the laundry detergent. Every night since, I’d found myself in it come bedtime. My shame knew no limits. And no, I still hadn’t quit. The words still hadn’t come even close to leaving my mouth.
He frowned. “No.”
“That I have some deep secret longing to feel close to you resulting in my stealing your shirt like some creepy perv?”
“Course I don’t fucking think that,” he replied crankily, reaching up to grip the top of the doorframe. All of his bulging muscles stretched the arms of his white T-shirt in the nicest way. It was all I could do not to start drooling, my heart beat taking up residence somewhere down between my thighs. And who could blame it? Not me. Maybe if I got laid, this would go away and things would return to normal. It’d seemed safer to avoid rubbing up against any men just in case I got carried away and started dating again. This new situation, however, changed everything.
“Well, of course not! That would be crazy.” And wasn’t that the god’s honest truth? Cray-zeee. Lock me up and throw away the key because it wasn’t like I didn’t know better.
“Just can’t figure out where the hell it could be.”
Angels couldn’t have smiled as innocently. They might have tried, but they would have failed, the dirty-mouthed, winged, little liars. “Jimmy, I don’t know where it is. But I’ll look around for it later, okay?”
“Yeah,” he said, and then added as an afterthought, “and stop looking at me weird.”
“I’m not!”

Kylie Scott returns with the highly anticipated follow-up to international bestseller Lick.

Mal Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast—at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn’t plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn’t count on finding the one right girl. Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

Oh boy, oh boy. Where do I start with this one? LICK was a great start to the STAGE DIVE series, but PLAY just took it to a whole new level. This was fantastic!!!!!!

It’s one of those book where, when you go to view the quotes you highlighted after you finished reading, you end you reading more than what you originally set out to do. It’s just that good that it’s not possible to get enough.

Mal was a standout character in book #1, but in book #2 he was outstanding. He is officially my favourite of all the rock star book boyfriends that I’ve ever read about. He’s hilarious. And I’m talking full on, laughing until your eyes water, bent over double, impossible to hold it in, hilarious. I laughed long and hard throughout this book as we got a more in depth look at just how crazy this drummer boy really is.

And the lucky lady who was on the receiving end of this loveable rogue’s charm? Anne was Mal’s complete opposite but it just worked for them. She handled him so well, and yes, Mal does need to be handled. Don’t forget about all that crazy! Though Anne does have a habit of giving off ‘crazy eyes’ when she’s watching Mal. But who can blame her, eh?

It’s not all fun and games though. There were times when my heart ached for both these characters; especially Mal. I think that’s a sign of a perfect book. When you feel as the characters do. They’re happy, you’re happy. They hurt, you hurt. They love, you love. You laugh with them, cry with them, and fall completely and hopelessly in love with them.

That’s what I had with PLAY. And that’s why it would insane of me to rate this book anything other than 5 stars.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

WHY??? Why, why, why did I leave this on my kindle for so long??? I bought this when it first came out. When the cover was dark and grungie, and not really all that inviting. I’m so glad the cover got changed to the lickable one it is now because THAT is what finally got me to read this book, and I thank the book gods that I did, because this.was.awesome!

David Ferris is the guitar playing, song writing legend for rock band Stage Dive, and Evelyn Thomas is a small town girl just trying to find her way. Put them both in Vegas, with tequila, and a diamond ring, and you’ve got the makings of one heck of a story!

Yes, the whole ‘waking up in Vegas’ storyline may be a little cliche, but the story itself was absolutely fantastic, and that is down to the very talented author, Kylie Scott. This is the start of a series that is very easy to become addicted to, and will always leave you craving more!

For Ev and David, it wasn’t exactly love at first site. Ev is understandably freaked out and worried when she find out what they did, and quickly escapes to the safety of home. But it’s not long before home is no longer somewhere safe to hide, and David steps in, forcing them together once again.

The path to true love is never an easy one, and that’s something these characters are quick to learn. A fast paced, addicting, steamy read, and one not to be missed.

Kylie Scott has made a Stage Dive groupie out of me.
